Who’s behind this

My name is Ged Brockie. I’m a Scottish guitarist, composer and author, and I’ve been playing professionally for most of my life — recording, performing, writing for albums, film and media.
I also teach. I’ve written more than seventeen books and media downloads for guitarists, which continue to sell around the world and I lecture part-time at Edinburgh Napier University in guitar studies and ensemble. Between the playing and the teaching, I’ve spent a long time watching people get stuck on the same things — and thinking about why the usual explanations don’t clear it up.
GMI Premium is what came out of that.
What GMI Premium is
Twelve interactive applications for working out harmony, voicings, progressions, structure and reading. A library of over 2,400 notated pieces you can read on screen. Video courses, a podcast archive, downloads, and a community of players.
The applications are the part that doesn’t exist elsewhere. They’re not videos of someone explaining a concept — they’re tools you use. Build a chord and see what you’ve actually made. Take a progression apart and hear each voicing move. Find out why the shape you’ve been playing for years is called what it’s called.
All of it built by a guitarist, for guitarists.
Every genre, every level
GMI is not a jazz site, or a classical site, or a rock site. The catalogue runs from beginner and children’s material through blues, rock, pop, folk, traditional Scottish, sea shanties, worship music and Christmas repertoire, to advanced harmony for players who want it.
That’s deliberate. A guitarist working out their first barre chord and one hunting a fresh upper-structure voicing are doing the same thing — trying to understand what’s under their fingers. The tools work either way.
One login. One price. Everything included.
The rest of GMI
GMI has been going since 2015. The original site, Guitar & Music Institute, carries podcasts, articles and free lessons and is still there. GMI Guitar Shop sells the printed books and downloads.
GMI Premium is the newest part, and the biggest — the place where the teaching became something you can actually use rather than only read.
Getting in touch
I read everything that comes in. If something isn’t working, if you’ve spotted a mistake in the notation, or if you want to know whether the platform covers what you’re after — write to me at info@gmipremium.com.
