GMI – Guitar & Music Institute has been publishing books since 2015 when the first book, “Drop Two Voicings Uncovered” was launched through Amazon and other online booksellers. The first books were all by the man behind GMI, Ged Brockie. Since then the range and depth of subjects covered has widened dramatically with a wide range of authors having their books published through GMI.
GMI has expanded into the download market and now has numerous free and paid for download products.

JAMIE AKERS

James (Jamie) Akers is one of GMI’s most prolific authors with seven titles to his name. James is a critically acclaimed musician Jamie Akers was hailed as ‘the great Scottish guitarist’ by Classical Guitar Magazine and, in a review from Gramophone, his playing was described as, ‘containing all the warmth, colour and expressive richness one could hope for.’
Throughout a varied career, Jamie has explored various genres of music from a historical and stylistic perspective, combining diligent research with expressive playing to communicate the continuity of musical endeavour through the centuries.

Ged Brockie is a guitarist, composer and tutor of guitar which has spanned over forty years. His work has taken him across Europe and America and he has played in everything from large concert halls to small intimate bar spaces.

FEDERICO BRUERA

Federico Bruera is a guitarist and Cuban Tres player, guitar tutor, composer, author of digital guitar lessons and products for GMI (Guitar & Music Institute).
Federico recorded and co-produced his first solo album Fuera del Surco in 2003 (released on iTunes 2009). In 2003, Federico moved to the UK and settled in London, England, where he collaborated with some of the top artists/bands on the national and international Latin scene. Federico was a co-composer of Arms Open Wide, the main soundtrack for the British made film ‘Adulthood’.
In 2017, Federico relocated to Scotland and joined the popular Cuban Son band Son Sabroso and later co-created La Formula Trio band.

NIGEL CLARK

In the late eighties Nigel joined the Glasgow band Hue & Cry. He recorded and toured with the band in the UK, Europe and in the U.S. and contributed musical arrangements to the band’s top ten singles and albums.
High profile collaborations followed with Moya Brennan, lead singer with Clannad, and jazz vocalist Carol Kidd with whom Nigel toured extensively in China and the Far East and then recorded several albums for Linn Records.
As a band leader, Nigel led the album “Worldwide Sound” for Sienna Records with Brian Kellock, saxophonist Tim Garland, Ewen Vernal on bass and Mike Bradley on drums. Appearing at the North Sea Jazz Festival at the invitation of his boyhood hero, Dutch superstar guitarist Jan Akkerman then followed.
In Cannes the same year he performed with Akkerman, Terje Rypdal and Wolfgang Muthspiel. The performance was witnessed by Bob Karcy, CEO of New York label Arkadia Records who signed Nigel to an exclusive five-album recording deal.

GAVIN JACK

Gavin is an experienced musician who has played in many bands sincean early age and currently playing in the band Hot Tin Roof. As a guitar teacher Gavin teaches many styles including folk, country, jazz, classical, blues, rock and pop.
Gavin created the free download pack “Learn Slide Guitar” which has proven incredibly popular.

HONZA KOURIMSKY

Honza Kourimsky is a Czech born guitarist/composer/tour manager based in Seattle, Washington State.
Work to date has included the arranging and performance of several albums and EPs, singles and classical scores. Musical theatre commissions have featured writing and performance in several productions at the prestigious Edinburgh International Fringe Festival gaining four-star reviews in publications across the UK.
Honza’s book “Tapping Discovered” was released by GMI in 2021 and he also created an indepth free lesson which introduced the book as well as transcribing many solos for GMI.

MALCOLM MACFARLANE

Malcolm MacFarlane is one of Europe’s finest guitar players as well as a composer and tutor. His work and expertise have made him a first call musician. Malcolm contributed the excellent “Jazz Improvisation” series to GMI which featured soloing over the John Coltrane classic “Giant Steps”.
The players that Malcolm has played with is a stellar roll-call of some of the finest names not just in jazz but in music. Check out the Giant Steps range of downloads which are for the more advanced player.

JOSH SEEX

Josh has been teaching guitar for around 20 years, both privately and for music schools around Edinburgh. He has an HND in modern musicianship and a 1st class honours degree in popular music. He has played in venues (either professionally in a function band, solo guitar, or in an original band) such as the EICC, the Usher Hall, Lothian Chambers, Shieldhill Castle hotel, Prestonfield House Hotel, Liquid Rooms and Carling academy, where he won the ‘Best Guitarist’ award, as part of the Scottish Finals of the Emergenza competition.
Josh’s book “Technique Building Etudes For Plectrum Guitar” is an absolute roast of a book which is definately for the advanced player!
